Intermediate | Level 4 – 6

Dance Styles

  • Ballet

Ballet at Levels 4-6, requires more from students than in junior levels. In Level 6 students begin preparing for pointe work so it is essential that they develop the strength and correct alignment to be allowed to dance en pointe.

  • Jazz

Jazz is a high energy class that uses modern music, and develops on technique learnt in ballet. Intermediate Jazz develops style and introduces students to more complex skills, such as turns, leaps, kicks and floor work.

  • Tap

Intermediate Tap expands students’ knowledge of tap steps, combing them together into more complex combination steps. It also continues to develop a strong sense of musicality, rhythm and clear beats.

  • Ballet Technique

Due to the increased demands in ballet, students are required to participate in a technique class, which allows students to focus technique rather than learning exam work.

  • Jazz Technique

This class is required if students wish to undertake their Jazz examinations. It has a particular focus on strength, conditioning and flexibly, and also gives students a chance to learn new acrobatic skills.

  • Contemporary

Contemporary dance uses technique developed in both ballet and jazz, fusing them into this modern style of dance. Often contemporary dances tell a story which requires the use of expression from the dancer therefore Contemporary is begun at this level as students are more developed emotionally. This class offers another way for students to diversify their dance training and is always a very popular class.

  • Acrobatics

Acrobatics is the new trend in dance. In this fun high energy class, students will learn flips and trick and do the strengthening and conditioning needed to perform such advanced skills.

  • Performance Group

Performance group allows our most dedicated students the opportunity to perform at many events and competitions throughout the year. They are expected to be diligent students as they learn two competition routines and work on more advanced skills.

  • Hip Hop

Hip Hop classes are designed to introduce students to this modern style of dance and diversify our dancers. They are fun classes, that cater to beginners and advanced students. While there is no exam work done in this class, students do participate in the end of year All Stars concert.
